About

Why this blog site? Because “Optimism is a happiness magnet. If you stay positive, good things and good people will be drawn to you.” Mary Lou Retton

Mary Lou Retton said it well. Her 1984 Olympic all-around gold medal was the first Olympic all-around gymnastics medal for a U.S. woman. Optimism (and hard work) paid off for her, and I’m sure it paid off for many other successful and happy people. So how do we stay optimistic and positive? That’s the question I asked myself. I started off by writing down five reasons to be happy, which I read every day. But soon I needed more reinforcement, which lead me to the idea of trying to find positive things to think about every day.

Why did I so desperately need to do this? Because I had come to the point where virtually every thought I had was negative, every feeling was negative, and everything I said was negative. Why? Maybe it was something inherent in my personality. Maybe it was a gradual process of erosion like the sand at the beach, caused by the daily assault on our senses by the problems of the world. Maybe , , , who knows? Maybe it doesn’t matter. What matters is that we have the ability to change our thinking. And that’s the goal of this blog: to change my thinking, and maybe yours.

I hope you like what you read here, and I hope you contribute things you’ve found that cause you to be more positive and optimistic, because optimism is a happiness magnet! To get started on our goal, how about some Happy Talk!
